RIBA love architecture festival 2012 – Pecha Kucha Night

On Wednesday 20th June, I will be presenting my talk Makeshift Bodies & Improvised Spaces which takes a wide-roaming look at improvisation as a powerful process in architecture, choreography and performance art. This Pecha Kucha event takes place at the Threshold pop-up architecture centre in Brighton and is part of the RIBA love architecture festival.

Further details from Threshold:

Weds 20th June – Architecture Pecha Kucha
Our first night of a week’s worth of events kicks off at Threshold on Wednesday with an architecture themed Pecha Kucha evening.

Pecha Kucha comes from the Japanese term for ‘chit-chat’. The format was devised by two architects in Tokyo about ten years ago and features a number of speakers all presenting in one night. Each speaker is allowed 20 slides, with only 20 seconds on each slide. So, each talk only lasts 6 minutes 40 seconds. This makes for a fast paced and informal evening – anyone who has ever been to, or taken part in, one of these nights knows how much fun it is as the audience is presented with lots of interesting ideas and the speakers try to keep up with the slideshow.

For our Threshold event, we have 9 artists, architects, designers and historians all talking about architecture from a different angle. Our speakers are (click on their names for more info)…

Jim Stephenson – Architectural Photographer

Richard Wolfstrome – Place Making and Way Finding Designer

Scott Jones – Menswear Designer

As with all the Threshold events, entry is free. The talks will kickoff at 7pm, but please get there a little early. On the night, we’ll be giving away the first of four special edition programmes, featuring an essay by Gem Barton.

Hope to see you there!”
